Jim, my friend Franz Mausser Sr. tells me that you have a remarkable level of knowledge about the genealogy of people from this area. I seem to be one of them. My paternal grandparents, Louis Sterbenz (who changed the z to a c in the erroneous belief that it would be easier for Americans to pronounce) and Mary/Mamie Murn (spelling? Not sure), came to this country in the early 20th century. All I know is that he was from Slovenia, she was sometimes described as "German" and "formerly from an aristocratic background," but there's no apparent reason why she'd have been from Germany and still met him in their youth. Her first language was Slovenian. Remaining skimpy clues: My father had a cousin who remained in Slovenia, first name Vinco, probably born somewhere in the (WAGuess) vicinity of 1930. Louis may have also had a relative named Frank (maybe a brother -- he was called "Uncle Frank," but I never met him) in California. Can you work from information this skimpy? Thanks.
