Greetings to everyone,
I wonder if anyone can help me. I am trying to trace my mother's ancestors. I go back as far as my greatgrandfather Ivan (Johann) SPANGER (1879-1935) from Prosek, a Slovenian village above Trieste. SPANGER is not a Slovenian surname and as far as I know the only SPANGER families in that area are connected with my g.grandfather. I have been exploring the history of this surname and it appears in Germany as far back as the 15th century. My g.grandfather considered himself a Slovenian but I know that his family must have come from somewhere else sometime before 1879. Gottschee is the closest German populated area they could have come from. Has anyone heard of the surname SPANGER in the Gottschee? Thank you for any help you can give me.
