I am searching for Military service records for Austrian Galicia.
The person I am researching was born in January, 1856. I have read that military service was compulsory, and that the man had to register in the Fall of the year prior to his 21st birthday. So this
person would have had to register in the Fall of 1876. He was born
in what is now Ukraine, a town called Kopychentsi(various spellings
depending on which country it belonged to - Poland, Austria, or Ukraine. In 1876 it belonged to Austro-Hungarian Empire. Where would I write to find a record of this military service? Would the records still exist? I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!
