: : : : : : Dear Dr. Christoph Tepperberg, : : : I wrote to the Vienna War Archives asking for the Austro-Hungarian military records of: : : : * My father, Ludwig (Lajos) Eberhardt (born in Sanktanna or Uj-Szent-Anna, district of Arad, previously part of Hungary, but now in Romania, on Sept./16/1892), who served between 1914-1918 and was probably stationed in Klosterneuburg; and : : : * His brother, Johann (Janos) Eberhardt (born in Sanktanna or Uj-Szent-Anna, district of Arad, previously in Hungary, now in Romania) : : : Your reply of Oct./08/01 by regular mail stated that Karl Taferner (apparently the person that did the searching) didn't find either my father's or his brother's military records; except a hospital record of Johann Eberhardt, which you kindly enclosed. : : : In that hospital (K.u.k. Reservespital in ZOMBOR) record I found written that Johann Eberhardt of Uj.Sz.Anna was recruited in 1915, and belonged to the "I.R.33", "Inf.", whose seat was in Arad (with battalion Nr.4 detached to Cattaro). On the other hand, Klosterneuburg was the station of battalion Nr.8 of Engineers Pioneers in 1914, and after the reorganization of the Austro-Hungarian Army in Dec./1917 and Jan./1918 it was converted into battalions # 1 and 47 of Engineers Sappers. : : : If their military records are not in the Vienna War Archives, is it because they were sent to the National Archives of Romania? Were all military records for the period 1914-1918 sent to the succesor nations of Austria-Hungary? Shouldn't at least be an index card for them in the Vienna War Archives? I have pictures of my father and his brother wearing their military uniforms (one has three stars and the other has two); would seeing these pictures help you identify their regiments, ranks, etc.? Thanks in advance! : : : Danny Eberhardt : Danny Where do I write to? I have a picture of my great grandfather who is dressed in a military uniform. His nativity was Hungary I was told to write to the Military Archives in Vienna
