I wanted to share this wonderful school picture with the Gottscheer community who frequent this website. Does anyone know the history of the photographer, R. Verderber? Was he based out of the city of Gottschee? Any comments on the approximate year of the photo, location, and who the teacher and students might be are welcome. The scan of the name is from the photo back.

Sorry, the photo is so huge. I’ve tried several times to fix the posting but I can’t seem to get it right. Helmuth if you have any suggestions for me please let me know.

The above picture is from Herbert Otterstadt’s book, Gottschee eine Deutsche Volksinsel im Sudosten, published in 1941. If you have the book, could you please tell me what the caption is, in English. Thanks very much.
