This site is dedicated to open discussion about the former linguistic island known as Gottschee (Kocevje), Slovenia. You will also find information about Gottscheer geneaology, villages, food, and folklore.

All contributions have been made by our loyal group of participants since the site's inception in 1995.

The following map was drawn by my mom, Mimi Kump, with a little help from HER mom, Agnes Staudacher. They were occupants of house #6, "Schmidisch" before the war forced them from Gottschee (the homes in any Gottschee village all had a name; in this case Schmidisch was the name of the family who actually built the house).

The village of Lapichl was at the very southern tip of the Gottschee region, in fact it was less than a mile from the river Kulpa.

The accompanying table lists the house numbers, the families and the house names (in case they're not too legible from the scan).
