Steve had many interests, as diverse as ham radio, skydiving, playing "uncle" to his cousins' many children, off-roading, computers, flying, and just spending time with family and friends.
He chronicled many of his favorite
activities on his web page; however here are some other
photos you may not have seen that capture Steve doing some of his favorite
things.
Steve operated this morse-code-only station from the closet of my mother's home in Deposit, NY. He could send morse code as good as anyone, yet he had a unique style. It got so I could hear Steve's "fist" on the air and recognize it instantly!
Here he is with Opa Staudacher in 1995, at Opa's house on 71st Avenue in Ridgewood. |
Dreaming about sport ute's at an auto show with cousin Pete Pfreundschuh. |
I'll never forget the day I opened an e-mail from him and saw this picture.
Always to be found with the kids! Here's Steve with Matthew and Anna Wagner. |
Steve's ham radio station, KA2SMR, in his home in Searingtown, about 1984. I shared his excitement the first time he contacted another station; what a thrill for both of us!
Steve's QSL card, which he exchanged with other amateurs he contacted. |
Me and Steve doing Amateur Radio Field Day in Deposit, June of 1992. We blew up the portable generator shortly after this picture was taken.
Pete, Steve and I went to the Beaver County (PA) air show in 1989 and we took a neat ride in a 6-seat Piper.
